ECHO-

An Echocardiogram, often called a cardiac ECHO test is a non-invasive ultrasound imaging test used to observe the heart in motion.  An echo is considered the best way to visualize the movement and function of the heart muscle and heart valves.  It is extremely useful for evaluation  of sizes of heart chambers, pumping function of ventricles,  thickness of heart muscle, condition of heart valves: presence of leaks or narrowing,  presence of muscle scar or detection of fluid around the heart.  It provides very detailed , although not complete information about the heart.

It may not  show the coronary arteries of the heart - those structures are too small to visualize.

You may need ECHO if you have shortness of breath at rest or during physical activity,

It is an entire painless procedure and takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.
